A family that came about four years ago – a mom, a dad a grandma, two sons, came and were with us for a couple of years while they took English classes and made connections before their refugee claim was settled… and then they were on their way. They came back about a month ago and they just stopped by… and we just had coffee with them and we shared how they were doing, how they have just bought their first house, how their kids were thriving at school and playing soccer, how he was loving his job and they had a little girl who just ran into the play space and played, and he sat back in his chair and he said, ‘you know I remember my first day here four years ago… I remember how afraid I was and how overwhelmed I was for my family, and we were just so blessed to have the opportunity to know that we had been a small part of his life and his family’s life and helping them thrive… and we can celebrate that with them. But the NCFC means that no matter how long it’s been that somebody has gone on and are thriving, we celebrate that they can come back any time - two years, ten years - and let us know how they are doing, and that those relationships continue.
