June 2023 Update
PRAISE THE LORD!! 2023 is an exciting year for our journey to BUILD more room for God! There is a LOT going on this month!
Centre for the City comes alive this month! Come for an open house!
This past May our community of new Canadians and volunteers celebrated the 10-year anniversary of our New Canadian Friendship Centre! Wow, time flies when God is moving in us and through us to serve people seeking friendship and support – especially newcomers to Canada! It is exciting and surreal to see this important ministry at CSC step into a new chapter as this Fall 2023 we will be growing into the Centre for the City and moving locations to the Central Campus expansion!
This month, starting on June 10/11 through to June 24/25 we will see some exciting examples during our weekend services about what the Centre is all about. In a nutshell? It’s about everything God can do for our city – through us! And this Fall 2023, not just our ministries to new Canadians, but also ministries to people in need, and outreach and evangelism ministries will all be coming together to become the Centre for the City and moving into their new home at the Central Campus expansion!
On June 10/11 and 17/18 you’ll be able to check out our new expansion spaces before and after the services. But remember… the Centre is not just a building – it’s a movement! All of us can be for the city in the name of Jesus! Make sure to tune in this month to see how you can be part of that regardless of which campus you attend. And if serving newcomers to Canada is something God is putting on your heart, we encourage you to save the date for a meeting on June 28 with our Centre for the City’s Refugee Friendship Program!
Washroom renovations begin at Central Campus
The vision of the Central Campus expansion is becoming a reality in a very visual way this summer. Renovations will soon begin for our existing Children’s Ministry spaces as well as our main floor bathrooms which will occur through the duration of the summer. Alternative washrooms, including wheelchair accessible options will be available! You can learn more about that here and enjoy a funny video further below!
Pray Serve and Give! We need people to serve for BUILD on July 29!
Seek God about how He may be calling you to give or to serve! Our expansion will provide more space for more people to come and find Jesus, but will we have the people to serve them? Whether God is calling you to serve new Canadians, or the next generation of Canadians at Children’s Ministry, there is a place to serve here at CSC!
We will also need an army of people to help us move Children’s Ministry equipment and supplies to the new expansion on July 29 and possibly 30th. Seek God about whether one of these opportunities is for you, and visit here to sign up!
Construction Updates
- Starting June 15 our main floor washrooms at Central Campus will undergo renovations. Alternative options will be available – learn more
- Flooring is being installed including ceramic tile in hallways and specialized floors in the gym.
- Sidewalks are being installed, and some exterior basketball hoops.

- Plumbing fixtures are being installed though out the expansion.
- Painting of doors, door frames, window frames continues; some doors have been installed.
- Connections between the existing facility and the expansion are being developed, including the expansion of the chapel.
- This summer we will be installing a second entrance to the south parking lot from 38 Ave.
- All three elevators in the Central Campus expansion have been installed but won’t be operational until inspected just prior to occupancy.
- Interior work continues including steel stud framing, insulation, drywall & taping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire-spray, lighting, millwork/cabinetry, flooring and primer/paint.

Pray that God will inspire us this month as we see the vision for Centre for the City and that He would move all of us to be for the City – whether in our neighbourhoods, workspaces or alongside our CSC family serving new Canadians, people in need and many others in the name of Jesus!

Finance Update
We are grateful for how, through your generosity to April 2023, God has provided $20.4M (Chapter 1 $15.7M, Chapter 2 $4.7M) leaving $5.1M remaining in our Chapter 2 goal. We still have a way to go to reach our goal. Thank you for continuing to pray and persevere with us in our journey to “complete the work,” physically, spiritually, and financially, in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 8:11.
