We value community! Each of us has a need to be part of a close-knit community, a place to belong, grow, laugh and serve with others as we learn to love God, love each other, and share God’s love with our world. Though we are a large church, at our core we are a network of small communities. We asked Jenn what community meant to her, and this is what she shared from her journey of getting connected with our Young Adults ministry.
“The first time I attended a Wednesday night, I was completely terrified and uncertain about what I would find. I didn’t want to face the rejection that I feared, and assumed, was waiting for me. I feared I wouldn’t fit in, but what I found was home. I found a place that I knew I “fit”. I found a community that was willing to take a chance and get to know me as a person, as I put myself out there to be known. Real community is so many things. It is facing fears. It is finding belonging. It is being known and knowing others. It is risk. It is messy. It is freeing. Real community is life-giving, powerful and safe. I have found such community among the Wednesday Night Gathering of young adults. As I look at where this community is now, I feel so blessed to be a part of it on such a deep and intimate level. Some of my closest friendships have formed over this past year and a half, friendships that in most other circumstances would not be to the depth and breadth of those I have now. I would not be where I am without this community. I am thankful.”
