Led by the Spirit

As we walked downtown, we saw a man sitting on a bench and immediately felt led to approach him and talk to him. He shared with us that he had grown up as a Muslim in a foreign country, but years down the road became a Christian. One of us asked if he had dreamed lots and if he could share one of them. He opened up about the trauma he experienced from the war in his homeland and the deep rejection he faced from his father. After taking the time to listen, we asked him if we could pray for him. At first, he seemed very unsure as he tilted his head down to look at the beer in his hand. He expressed shame over the state of his life. Despite this, he agreed to let us pray. We began to prophecy and speak life over him. While praying for him, he experienced the love of God and was healed of an issue he had been having with the right side of his back. He expressed his desire to walk with God and the feeling of being a captive to sin. We began to share with him about the gift of the Holy Spirit and the empowerment that He gives to set us free. After sharing, we prayed for him to be filled with Holy Spirit, and as we prayed, he began to speak in tongues. Immediately after praying, a homeless man approached us and began to heckle him for his faith in God. The man who was just filled with the Holy Spirit began to proclaim the gospel boldly to the heckler saying, “I am a Christian! Jesus came to bring Life.” We both stood back in shock as we witnessed what seemed to be an immediate change. We wondered if this was similar to what the disciples experienced with Jesus when he ministered to others.

We didn’t know what to say at first. We didn’t know what would happen, but we heard that little whisper from the Holy Spirit. We knew He would honor obedience and move whatever way He wanted and all we had to do was say Yes.
