The Vision

Vision to BUILD more room for God

God is opening doors. People are seeking more out of life. The vision God has given us to BUILD more room for Him is to build more purposeful space locally and globally so we can be even more equipped as we pursue Godpursue relationships, and pursue Mission here at home through our Centre for the City and around the world.

We are one church in many locations

We are one church that operates out of many campuses to carry out our mission – to lead people to Jesus and help them become fully devoted followers of Christ. As one church in many locations, we see each building as a hub for local kingdom work, a place of gathering where together we are  encouraged by the Holy Spirit, and a place of equipping to send us out into the community. We are connected to a powerful network of Christians united on mission locally, nationally and internationally.

We are also united under one strategy, one budget, one senior pastor and one board. We believe God has called us towards a multi-site vision because:

  • We can more effectively steward our resources  across a wider geographic area working together than if each church was run independently.
  • Pursuing mission means our members share Jesus with their own communities. We believe our campuses empower people to invite neighbours, family and friends to gatherings that are near by.
  • Pursuing relationships is a big part of our discipleship mission. Relationships grow in nearby spaces where people can meet, worship, share, have fun and do life together in Christ.
  • Pursuing simplicity allows us to focus on what matters. We believe having locations close to where people live helps to simplify logistics in mission and discipleship – it simplifies travel and planning, providing a nearby space to gather all week long.
  • Many locations provide more chances for people to use their abilities, gifts and time to God’s glory.

Most recently in our journey to BUILD more room for God we constructed our Bearspaw Campus to impact North Calgary for Christ in greater ways than ever before. See our long-term vision for permanent buildings across all our campuses below.

Permanent Church Buildings

We believe the church is the people… people building relationship with God. A big part of our approach to evangelism and discipleship is building strong relationships inside and outside the church. Permanent buildings serve as bridges from the community to the church, providing purpose-built spaces to serve people in need, and for the community to join us in learning together, growing together, and having fun together.

Additionally, permanent church buildings provide greater planning certainty and autonomy in how and when we use facilities than do rental facilities. Buildings empower us to make decisions in the best interest of our church, community and mission.

A church in the community is a sign of God’s presence in that community, lived out through His people. Unlike a rented facility, a church building serves like a lighthouse, a visual reminder of the call to pursue God, and that anyone seeking help, meaning or belonging is welcome… all week long.

Our long-term vision for buildings

We believe God has called us to build permanent, purpose-built spaces for each of our five campuses.

  • Bearspaw Campus was completed in September 2021 and has had a strong attendance of up to 1000 people in 2023; this is almost triple our attendance when we operated out of rental facilities.
  • We opened our Central Campus expansion in the Fall of 2023 and by summer 2024 we completed renovations in our main facility and all expansion construction with exception of interior development of the fourth floor which will be completed at some point in the future.

In the future we believe God will lead us to continue to BUILD More Room for Him. While we do not yet have a sense for when that will occur or which project(s) will be prioritized, below is a list of some of those opportunities.

  • Land for a permanent Southwest Campus facility
  • A location for a camp ministry
  • A permanent Airdrie Campus facility
  • Build out the fourth floor of the Central Campus expansion
  • Acquire land adjacent to Central Campus for expanded parking

“Our presence in the community has helped us become a permanent part of the neighbourhood. This has encouraged people to come to church and has resulted in neighbours being saved and added to our church community. In the first year in our building, we ran an Alpha course for over 100 people who we were seeking to reach for Christ, and our building has facilitated Church Planter Training meetings for the past four years. Multiple community groups (small groups) come that do not have big enough houses to meet in and the building has provided a venue for our youth to grow and reach other youth. We’ve even been able to partner with a school on our property, giving us ministry opportunities with the children and their parents. It has enabled us to host very low-cost conferences and provide a venue for exercise and soccer practices. Our building never sleeps!”

“Thank you so much for your gift in support of Empower’s training centre in Southeast Asia. The funds you supplied either constructed or furnished dorms, a library, a hydroponic farm, a kitchen and eating areas, plus provided audio/visual equipment for the large training room. All the construction has been completed and Bible training classes are fully underway on a regular basis. Not only this, but a local congregation is also using the facilities for a new church plant.

The impact of your investment is great for the Kingdom of God. In the countries of Asia, there is a massive outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with multitudes turning to the Lord. National church leaders have told us repeatedly that their greatest need is biblical/theological training to keep up with the explosive church growth. Thousands of pastors are growing in faith and knowledge at the training centre, while the Holy Spirit is anointing them for extremely fruitful ministry. This is why your support was so timely in the plan of God for this region of the world. Many thanks from the national pastors and churches of Asia.”

Throughout the history of CSC, God has led us through significant seasons of contemplation, prayer and growth. In 2008, we felt God leading us to become a multi-site church so that a vibrant missional presence was expressed through and experienced by thousands of people across a wider metropolitan area united by one mission while unencumbered by geographic and resource limitations. At the governance level, our campuses have been unified under one Board, one Senior Pastor, one set of operational policies and one strategic plan, allowing for stronger cohesion of people and more efficient and effective use of resources. God has led us through many challenges but through prayer and effective leadership and governance, we are staying on mission. Much of this would not have been possible without the remarkable generosity of our adherents and the stewardship of these resources. Looking ahead, I believe God is ‘showing us a new thing.’ Isaiah 43:19 says: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
